Thousands of SDG&E Customers Wake Up Without Power

April 18, 2024 : On Friday morning, a localized power outage impacted many San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) customers. The disruption affected residents in the Encinitas, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Olivehain, University Heights, North Park, and Normal Heights communities.

According to information released by SDG&E, the outage initially affected over 6,000 customers at approximately 6:10 AM. The utility company has not disclosed the cause of the power disruption.

SDG&E implemented restoration efforts, and the number of impacted customers steadily decreased throughout the morning. By 9:30 AM, the number affected had been reduced to roughly 229 customers.

The utility company communicated estimated restoration times to affected communities. Encinitas, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, and Olivehain residents were informed to expect power restored by 9:30 AM. For customers in University Heights, North Park, and Normal Heights, restoration was anticipated by noon.
